Mindfulness-Based Life Transitions

Spring 2024 Dates: March 5 - April 30 (Online)

Mindfulness-Based Life Transitions is a new Mindfulness-Based Intervention that is based on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). It is an 8-week course geared for anyone going through a life transition—Changing careers, entering retirement, making a geographical move, being in-between jobs, navigating a divorce or break-up, facing an empty nest, living with a chronic disease, welcoming a new baby, celebrating a milestone birthday, taking a sabbatical, weathering a financial loss, receiving a diagnosis, or suffering the death of a loved one, to name a few.

Any life transition, whether unplanned or planned, can bring up many intense and overwhelming emotions, such as fear, worry, anxiety, panic, self-doubt, isolation, sadness, anger, grief, depression, and self-criticism. All this drains precious energy and cognitive resources from what matters most: Staying focused on the task at hand to move from here to there. For the person going through it, such a transition is often experienced largely alone and in the confines of the thinking mind. This type of silent suffering can make one feel lost and unmoored, and more likely to interpret reality negatively, which can bring about rumination, self-criticism and self-loathing—factors that affect wellbeing, flourishing and the likelihood of success. Mindfulness-Based Life Transitions offers participants many benefits and can help you:

  • Reduce stress

  • Regulate strong emotions

  • Reduce anxiety

  • Loosen grip of negative thinking and habits

  • Improve wellbeing
